U9 and U10 Mike Latty Soccer Academy

What is the Mike Latty Soccer Academy (MLSA)?

The Mike Latty Soccer Academy (MLSA) is the youth development academy at United Soccer Club.  Starting in the Fall of 2015, USC was very excited to introduce this branded program to the North Alabama soccer community that will honor the legacy of the USC Technical Director, Mike Latty, the most successful coach in Alabama Soccer History.

The MLSA is the youth soccer development program at United Soccer Club for boys and girls ages 4-10. It is built on the fundamental teaching principles developed by coach Mike Latty over his illustrious 30+ year career. It is a positive perspective program that focuses on teaching children how to love and enjoy the sport of soccer while being trained by coaches who encourage the positive things they do to succeed on and off of the field.

The MLSA will also offer winter indoor programs and summer kick-arounds.

USC players are guaranteed to receive age-appropriate instruction from our coaches during all training and game day sessions. While participation in all sessions is not required, registered players will be offered 1-2 training opportunities per week for approximately 8-12 weeks each fall and spring.

The Academy will continue to provide a quality club soccer experience and introduce the game to new players in the Huntsville area.

MLSA U9 Academy Teams (7v7)

Players in the MLSA U9 Academies have two training sessions a week.
Boys and Girls teams are separate from one another.

These age groups continue to focus on individual skill development, with more emphasis on developing specific useful moves for attacking play.

MLSA focus at this age group is geared toward learning to interact with one to two other players in ball possession, attacking, and defending situations. More time spent on under standing positional play, and defensive principles of pressure, cover,  and balance. Training emphasis on technique of passing and receiving,
straight on, and across the body.

There are 8-12 local games in a season. There are occasional games vs of town competition.  Travel is minimal to moderate depending on tournament selection.

MLSA U10 Academy Teams (7v7)

Players in the MLSA U10 Academies have two training sessions a week.
Boys and Girls teams are separate from one another.

U10 Academy training focus on building on fundamentals learned in U9 Academy play. Players learn how to build play out of the back, and how to incorporate goal keeper as an extra field player. Continued development of individual skill development, players learn when to pass vs when to dribble as they mature and recognize these moments.

Teams will travel to one or two tournaments and will have some away games within a 1-2 hours driving range.
