Gunnar Oddgeir Birgisson

Give a big United Soccer Club Icelandic Viking clap to welcome Gunnar "Guni" Oddgeir Birgisson to the USC staff!  

Coach Gunnar was born in Reykjavik, Iceland in 1992. Before moving to the United States in 2015, Gunnar played semi-pro soccer in Iceland.  In 2009 and 2010 he played 10 games for Iceland U-17 and U-19 National Team to qualify for the European Championship.  Gunnar played 2 years for UAH, captaining the team in his Junior and Senior years.  

2016: All-Gulf South Conference … Appeared in 16 games and started all 16 of those contests … Registered two points by tallying two assists on the year … Assists came against King (9/17) and Delta State (9/30) … Was a staple in the midfield for the Chargers logging 1,370 minutes while also captaining the squad for part of the season. 

2015: Appeared in 10 games and recorded nine starts during his freshman season in Huntsville … Totaled three points by logging a goal and an assist on the year … Notched his first collegiate point with an assist against Christian Brothers (10/2) and scored his first collegiate goal in GSC tournament semifinal match against West Florida (11/6) … Logged 808 minutes including four matches in which he played every minute.

Prep: Attended Flensborg High School in Hafnafjordur, Iceland.
