My athlete is interested in playing at the "next level". Where do we begin?

Notice the title of this section..."my athlete is interested..."
The absolute most important first step is asking your athlete if they really are dedicated to the process and demands of what it takes to play at the next level.   There are many parents who assume their child "wants" to play beyond high school and push them towards that path without actually asking.

Being recruited to play in college and beyond is a process that 100% begins with the student-athlete.  The athlete is the one to research potential schools and programs, email college coaches, set up meetings/phone calls/virtual meetings, coordinate ID camps and showcase events.  College coaches want to know the athlete is a leader, responsible and has what it takes to be a contributing member of a collegiate level program because soccer scholarships are few and far between- the athlete has to want to be there.

Here we offer some general steps in the recruiting process (more detailed links and info are provided below).
1. Ask your athlete about their desires to play college soccer (recommended 8th grade year).
If the answer is yes, continue to the links below!
If the answer is no, embrace it and be ok that your child has had a wonderful experience learning the value of competitive, team based sports that will carry into their adult life.
