Fall 2021 full Tryout Schedule

REQUIRED: ASA Player and Parent Commitment Form

This form must be filled out online or printed and brought with the player to U9-U19 tryouts.

By attending tryouts voluntarily, you acknowledge you understand and will comply with all policies and provisions are in place at the time of tryouts.

  • Please arrive no more than 20 minutes prior to your first tryout session time/day and check in at the administration tent that will be outside the fence on the corner of Jaycee Way and Field 2.  ALL participants must check in to receive their tryout number.
  • There are 1-2 sessions per age group.  While attendance at all tryout sessions is considered mandatory, we do understand there are schedule conflicts from time to time.  You must still register your player for tryouts and notify your age group manager or to make other arrangements for the player.  Please try and attend all sessions to give the coaches a good opportunity for a full evaluation.

  • Wear soccer cleats (no softball or baseball cleats) & shin guards.
  • Wear weather appropriate clothing and sunscreen.
  • Bring a properly labeled water bottle/jug.
  • Please use the restroom at home before coming to the fields.  The public facilities and water fountains may not be available.

  • Fill out the U9-U19 Registration form above and pay $10 via credit card, bank draft or plan to bring cash or check with you to the first night of tryouts.
  • Make sure your child is well rested and hydrated.
  • Discuss with your family the commitment level and cost of club soccer and make sure it is a good fit for you and your athlete(s).
  • Try not to add any extra pressure to your child before or during tryouts.

  • Parents are welcome to stay and watch tryouts, however, due to the current COVID-19 health situation, we strongly recommend spectators keep a minimum of 6ft between households to ensure social distancing.   Spectators should  stay away from the sidelines and immediate area of the staff and players and are encouraged to remain outside the fence.  Crowded sidelines can create undo stress for players and unwanted distractions.
  • USC Uniforms will have a table set up for for uniform sizing .  Uniforms will be ordered online after jersey numbers have been assigned to new players.   FALL 2021 WILL BE NEW UNIFORMS that will be used through Spring 2023
  • USC Spiritwear will be available for purchase, along with some discounted previous season USC apparel.
  • USC will be having a "Shoe Swap Shop" near the apparel tables for anyone in need of cleats.  We want to make sure all of our athletes have access to proper footwear for comfort and safety.  Have outgrown gently loved cleats to donate?  Just bring them with you and we will get them cleaned up for another player in need.

  • MEETINGS MAY BE CONDUCTED VIRTUALLY DEPENDING ON APPROPRIATE SAFETY MEASURES AT THE TIME OF TRYOUTS.   Age group managers and coaches will have a meeting after tryouts to reconnect with established families, welcome new families, discuss summer training options, explain first installment payments, assign jersey numbers to new athletes, and go over several general "housekeeping" items.  Please make sure at least 1 family member is present at the meeting.

  • Any last minute changes due to inclement weather or standing water on fields will be communicated via alert through Team Snap and on our Facebook, Instagram & Twitter pages.

Note: Due to possible last minute changes, always check the tryout/evaluation schedule below and USC Social Media accounts prior to traveling to the fields.

Tryouts FAQ

Question Answer
Do I have to register online? Ideally, yes. Online registration prior to coming to tryouts will ensure you are receiving all communication regarding tryouts and will allow for our volunteers to have a player number ready and waiting. If you do not register online prior to coming to the field, please expect to wait while our volunteers enter all your information into the system, assign a player number, and take your payment.
Do I have to attend all tryouts? Ideally, yes. The more the coaching staff gets a chance to evaluate your child’s ability, the more likely they are to accurately assess the player's ability and assign them to the appropriate team.
Should parents attend try-outs? Parents are encouraged to watch the try-out sessions but do not have to be present.
How soon will I know if I make the team? Age group coaches will contact each player and/or family directly or via phone call. Players invited to join United Soccer Club teams will be given a deadline to verbally commit to joining the team.
What if I’m out of town and can’t attend the tryouts? You must contact the respective coach in this case. Coaches must be able to see the player play or make other arrangements in order to be selected to a team.
What should I bring? Come prepared to train with a soccer ball, cleats, shin guards, and water.
What if it rains? In the case of inclement weather, check the United Soccer Club website for alternate tryout dates.
I made the team, what’s next? Each team will have a meeting following tryouts to prepare for the upcoming season. At this time, volunteers will be selected (manager, treasurer, etc) and also team budgets, tournaments, and practice schedules will be discussed. Some teams will train in the summer, but that will vary team to team.
How much will it cost to play with United Soccer Club? Cost will vary team-to-team and age-group to age-group and will also depend on the number of tournaments that the team and coach decide to attend. Sample budgets will be available at tryouts to view.
When will I have to pay my first fee? The first payment of your fees will be due at the first team meeting. The balance of the fees will be broken up into schedules based on your specific team's budget.
How soon will practice begin after try-outs? Some teams will train in the summer, but that will vary team to team.
What days will my team practice and where? Each team will have practice fields and days assigned. The coach will advise the team concerning the days and length of practices. Normally teams practice twice a week for 1.5 to 2 hours.
How much travel is involved in competitive/select soccer? The travel commitment varies from age to age and team to team. The reason teams travel is pursuit of competition (with the exception of older teams who are trying to be "seen" by college coaches by attending college showcases). The younger teams in the club can generally find plenty of competition in the Huntsville, Birmingham and Nashville area. Teams also participate in tournaments each season as well. As teams mature, they will often go out of town overnight in order to challenge themselves by playing more competitive teams from other cities.
Which age group is my child in? Can we "play up"? See the age group chart above. (Cut off dates are January 1 - December 31). USC does not regularly “play up” athletes for an entire season into the next age bracket. On occasion outstanding players will be selected to “play up” for a game or a tournament, however our club philosophy is to build the age group and in turn, their level of play grows at the appropriate rate for the cognitive and emotional maturity of the athletes on the teams. We have found great success in creating teams playing at the highest level by building the age group with true age group players.
