Head Soccer Coach Job Description

Overview

United Soccer Club has experienced a rapid amount of member growth and program offerings over the past several years. We are now looking to further expand our technical development programs for all ages and levels, as well as provide our players with a high-performance option. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to help a large community soccer club reach the next level of technical excellence.

This senior leadership position will be responsible for coaching some age groups, with emphasis on youth player development. The head coach will create and implement an overall technical plan that establishes United Soccer Club’s commitment to the development of its players, to reach their highest desired potential. This position will provide the direction so that players have a clear understanding of their development pathway in all programs and maintain a strong commitment to the club. The head coach is responsible to report to the Club’s Director of Coaching and Board of Directors as well as to the President.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Primary Duties

  1. Full-time coach that will run daily group practices with different age groups.
  2. Meticulous preparation for the design of practices and for the matches with individual player development as the priority.
  3. Run Individual training sessions with players to enhance their technical ability.
  4. Explain and enforce safety rules during every practice session.
  5. To provide a year-round practice program for youth players.
  6. To attend tournaments and trips when requested by the club.
  7. Participate in summer camps, for competitive and recreational players.
  8. Participate in other events within United Soccer Club (futsal, events, meetings, etc.) as assigned.
  9. Provide constant feedback to the players in regards of their technical development and performance.
  10. Develop a system for player evaluation and talent identification to ensure progress can be clearly defined for each player and all players are appropriately trained.
  11. Positively contribute to the individual growth as young men using the sport of soccer as the vehicle.
  12. Ensure that advanced training programs are developed for high performance players.
  13. Constantly monitor world trends within the game and within the sport and implement it on the Club’s Programs.

2. Reporting

a. Provide the Director of Coaching and the Board of Directors with monthly technical reports for inclusion in monthly management meetings.

3. Competencies and Skills required

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management.
  2. Coaching License or international equivalent.
  3. Previous experience as a coach or assistant coach for male and female soccer. Preferably previous experience with professional Soccer.
  4. Previous experience as soccer player.
  5. Experience with different soccer cultures around the world.
  6. Knowledge of high-performance player development systems and how they differ and integrate with community sport programs.
  7. An understanding of youth soccer competition structure and how it relates to optimal player development.
  8. Candidate must be fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
  9. An ability to think and plan strategically and effectively link technical planning with broader Club goals and strategic intent.
  10. Strong communications skills and an ability to convey technical planning to non-technical Club stakeholders, including the parents of players.
  11. A team player, with an ability to build consensus and collaborate as part of an integrated multi-functional management team.
  12. Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, TacticalPad,).
  13. Exceptional time management skills and ability to prioritize work.

6. Salary
