USC began the tournament by defeating fourth-seeded Gulf Coast Rangers FC in their first match, 2-1. They followed that with another 2-1 victory over BUSA (Premier) in the Saturday night cap, setting up a showdown with Homewood SC in the third and final match.
Going down early in the fifth minute, USC struck back midway through the first half with a goal from Spencer; a strike that ricocheted off the crossbar from outside the 18. Just before the first half ended, Jared gently delivered a long, bending ball to the back post out of the reach of a retreating keeper to put USC up 2-1.
Play in the second half intensified as injuries and fouls increased with extra effort. In the 70th minute, Tyler collected a forward pass against pressure from several defenders and netted a third goal. It looked as if Homewood SC was defeated but they kept up the pressure and with under 10 minutes to play, broke through on two occasions to tie the match.
The game went into injury time but ended in a tie. USC held the match advantage on possession and shots-on-goal but Homewood SC held the advantage on tournament goal differential so the tie secured Homewood the Championship.
Congratulations to Coach Nacho and the 00 Boys-Elite for a successful 2016 campaign; finishing unbeaten in ASA State League play at 8-0-2.
