The 99 Girls Blue team had a very impressive State Cup showing. After dropping their first game 2-0 to BUSA Elite they went on to defeat Vestavia Attack White 3-0 and Lady Ambassadors Gold 5-1 in bracket play. In the semi-finals their opponent was BUSA United. Trailing 0-1 at halftime, Lizzie Hightower evened the match midway through the second half with a nice shot past a very strong BUSA keeper. With about 12 minutes to play in regulation, Emma Obeirne slotted home a breakaway to take a 2-1 lead. BUSA evened the score at 2-2 with 5 minutes left, and that remained the score after regulation time expired. After two scoreless overtime periods, the game went to a penalty kick shootout. Camille Atkins saved the first two PK attempts by BUSA. The first USC kick attempt narrowly missed, just hitting the bottom of the left post. On their second kick, USC took a 1-0 lead after Emma Obeirne scored with a strong shot to the left of the BUSA goalkeeper. However, BUSA recovered from their early disadvantage, and connected on their next three penalty kicks, whereas USC's next two kicks hit the crossbar, and then the right post, respectively, and the shootout ended with a 3-1 BUSA advantage. BUSA United went on to beat Vestavia Attack Black 3-0 in the finals.
