U9s Find Success at Governor's Cup

The United 01 Boys Rowdies were Champions of the red division in the Governor's Cup state tournament. The boys had a strong weekend going undefeated in round robin play over 4 games. They had wins over Vestavia 7-4, River City 5-0, Coosa Storm 6-5, and a tie with Tuscaloosa 2-2.

The United 01 Boys Comets were Finalists of the green division in the Governor's Cup state tournament. The boys had a great showing in their bracket compiling a 2-1 record over 3 games in round robin play. They had wins over Tuscaloosa 4-3, Homewood 4-0, and a narrow loss to the eventual champions,EYSA Pumas 1-0. With several absences, the team had to battle all weekend with 6 players making the result even more impressive. USC would like to congratulate both teams on their success in their first state tournament and wish them continued success in the future.

 

USC 97 Boys Take Championship at Germantown

The 97 Boys brought home the Championship winning the Silver Division in the 2009 Germantown Invitational tournament in Memphis, TN.  The team defeated Mississippi Fire 2-0 and MidSouth FC 1-0 in group play.  They had a come from behind victory against Pride Fusion 2-1 in the semi-final and won the final match against Louisiana Fire 1-0.  The team fought extremely hard all weekend to come away with the victory medals.  USC would like to congratulate the 97 Boys on their Championship at Germantown in addition to their successful campaign this Fall.

00%20Boys%20Cosmos.jpgThe United 00 Boys Cosmos went undefeated at the the Fall 2009 Birmingham Bash with a 4 - 0 record winning the Silver division. The Cosmos offensive and defensive play was solid scoring a remarkable 42 goals while allowing only 2. They also recorded 3 shutouts over the 4 games in the tournament. This is the Cosmos first season as a team with United and we wish them much success in the future.
 

United Teams Find Success in Queen City Classic

Congratulations to the 01 Boys Hardrollers and the 98 Lady Hardrollers for taking home the championships in there respective divisions at the Queen City Classic in Clarksville, TN. The 01 Boys went undefeated in 3 games with victories over the Clarksville Royals, Wolves, and Smyrna Rapids scoring an impressive 16 goals while only giving up 3.

The 98 Girls won their division going undefeated as well with wins over the TNFC Thunder 3-0, Lady Kaos 2-1, and the Lady Wolves 5-0.  This is the second year in a row the girls have taken the championship in this tournament. USC would like to congratulate the teams on their great performance in this tournament and wish them continued success throughout the year.

United 01 Boys Comets are Champions in Birmingham Bash

The 01 Boys Comets took home the Champion's medals winning the Silver Division in the 2009 Birmingham Bash tournament.  The team went undefeated in 4 games scoring an impressive 22 goals while only giving up 4.  They had wins over BUSA North Arsenal, BUSA North Liverpool, VHSC Torino, and COOSA YMCA in round robin play.  USC would like to congratulate the team for their excellent performance in this tournament and wish the boys continued success for the remainder of their season.

Alex Garcia Remains in the Hearts of the United Family

The United Family suffered a tragic loss this past Monday with the passing of Alex Garcia.  Alex was a player on the 98 Boys team who had a passion for the game of soccer as well as for his family and friends.  He was a great kid as well as a great player.  Please keep the family of Alex Garcia in your prayers as they go through this difficult time.

There will be a visitation held in Scottsboro at St. Jude's Catholic Church, 17205 Al Highway 35, Scottsboro, AL 35768-6773, (256) 574-6156, on Wednesday (9/2/09) from 5 to 8pm.  The funeral is scheduled for Thursday morning.

 

God Bless #18, Alex Garcia, he is surely missed.

The United 98 Lady Hardrollers found success in the Lanier Academy Cup tournament in Georgia this past weekend.  The team took 1st place in the Elite Division with impressive play on both ends of the field outscoring opponents 11-0 over 4 games.  The girls had wins over the Lanier Sharks, Cherokee Impact, and Atlanta Soccer Academy Extreme in round robin play.  They defeated the Cherokee Impact 2-0 in the final match to take the championship.  The United family would like to congratulate the Lady Hardrollers and the guest players from the USC 98 Power team for their strong performance in this tournament and wish them success for the remainder of their season.

United Day Kickoff a Success

unitedday2009b.jpgUnited’s annual kickoff party was a great success by all accounts.  The assortment of food was both diverse and appetizing.  Kids and parents alike enjoyed the food, moon bounce, slide, snow cones, and music.  And of course, the soccer was fun as pickup games continued throughout the day.   Also, United families donated 222 pounds of food for the North Alabama Food Bank.  This equates to about 180 meals!  This kind of support shows how the club is committed to helping our community.  USC would like to thank everyone for making this day a huge success. United Soccer Club Obtains Its 501(c)(3) Status

United Soccer Club has received notification from the IRS that it has obtained its 501(c)(3) status.  This status makes United eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions that will aide in the successful future of the club.  The status is effective June 1, 2007, which is the date the club was established.  The United organization considers this a great milestone for the club at this time.  United would like to recognize Beth Lumb, the club treasurer, for her tireless effort and attention to detail making this achievement possible for United Soccer Club.

 

98Boys_TNUnited.jpgThe United 98 Boys team completed a successful weekend as finalists at the 2009 United Cup of Champions tournament in Hendersonville/ Goodlettsville, TN this past weekend. The team fought hard all weekend with some impressive wins but fell short in the finals to a strong Brentwood Elite team. USC would like to congratulate the team for their excellent performance in this tournament and wish the boys continued success for the remainder of their season.

Courtney Hurt, a member of our USC 93 Girls team, has been selected to go to Hjorring Denmark to train and guest play with the Fortuna Hjorring youth team in the largest international youth tournament in Europe, the Dana Cup.  Courtney is part of a select group of girls getting this unique opportunity to train with the technical staff of the women's only Danish professional club, Fortuna.  Courtney will also have the chance to experience the culture and life of an elite European youth soccer player in addition to training within this professional club’s youth system.  The USC family wishes her well as she represents Alabama, as well as United Soccer Club, on her European endeavor.

United Teams Find Success in 2008 AYSA State Cup

Congratulations go out to all three United teams that participated in the 2008 AYSA State Cup. All three United teams played on the Final Four weekend at the Jack Allen Soccer Complex in Decatur, Alabama.  The 93 Girls were Finalists falling just short in their hard fought final match.  The 91Girls and 93 Boys both made it to the Semifinals finishing off a very successful season.  The United family is very proud of the accomplishments of these teams and wish them continued success.
93Girls_Crossroads.jpg The United 93 Girls finished a competitive weekend as Finalists in the Crossroads of the South Invitational hosted by Jackson Futbol Club.  The team went undefeated in group play and beat the CSC Rage in the semi-final match 3-2.  The girls fought to a narrow one goal loss in the finals against a tough Mandeville Lakers team.  Congratulations to the girls on their strong showing in this tournament!

97Boys_MusicCity.jpgThe United 97 Boys team had a very successful weekend taking the championship in the Gold Division at the Music City Invitational in Nashville this past weekend.  The team went undefeated in round robin play defeating Tennessee United Red 3-0, Brentwood Select 4-0, Harpeth FC Black 2-0, and tying Nashville Metros 2-2.  The team’s defensive play was superb recording shutouts in 3 of the 4 games.  USC would like to congratulate the team for their great performance in this tournament and wish the boys continued success for the remainder of their season.

93Boys_Brentwood.jpgThe United SC 93 Boys U16 team completed a great weekend as Finalists in the adidas Brentwood Invitational.  In group play, the team went undefeated and had wins against host team Brentwood 93 Boys Select, TNFC 93 White and BUSA Select 93 outscoring their opponents 15-2 with two shutouts.  After getting down early in the championship game by three goals to a strong well rested Clarksville Kaos Arsenal team,  United SC 93 battled back late in the game to score two goals and were threatening to score again when time expired.  Congratulations to the United SC 93 Boys team on their success.

'91 Girls Find Success in NASA Classic

Seeing their first action of the 2008 season, the United '91 Girls were finalists in the NASA Classic this past weekend in Atlanta, GA.  With wins over Clash 90, CESA 90, and NASA Select in group play, United lost 2-0 in the final to GSA Phoenix 91.  Congratulations to the girls on a great start to their season.

The United SC '90 Girls team is preparing for the 2008 US Youth Soccer Southern Region Championship tournament in Raleigh/Wilson, North Carolina.  The team is representing the Region III Central Subregion and will be among teams from 12 states in the competition.  Group play matches for the team are scheduled for June 20, 21, and 22.  United wishes the girls good luck in the tournament.

United Coach Named Metro 6A Coach of the Year

Congratulations to coach Craig Maples for being named Metro girls coach of the year for 6A. Craig coached the Grissom Lady Tigers to the second round of substate. They had a very strong season and finished with a record of 23 wins and 4 losses. The Lady Tigers scored an impressive 135 goals in addition to having 20 shutouts.  United is fortunate to have Craig's experience on our staff and look forward to his continued leadershp.

USC Coach Named Girl's Coach of the Year

The Huntsville Times has named USC Coach Marco Funghi, head coach of the Madison Academy girls varsity team, Girl's Coach of the Year.  Congratulations to Coach Marco for this honor!  The Lady Mustangs finished the season 16-5-0 and advanced to the state semifinals for the first time in the school's history.  United is very proud to have Marco on its coaching staff and looks forward to his continued success.
